Palak Paratha is a delicious and healthier version of regular Plain or Tawa Paratha. Palak Paratha are spiced flatbreads that go along very well with any sort of curry, dal and you can also enjoy these in breakfast with pickle and Masala curd.

Well there are different recipes to make spinach paratha, some people like to add chopped spinach in the flour and then roll parathas out of this dough, while others prefer to add spinach ‘Puree’ in the flour and then form it in a dough to make parathas. Well, whatever the recipe you use these parathas taste outstanding, however the second method which uses spinach ‘Puree’ gives a lovely bright green color that you do not get with chopped spinach. Here we are sharing you the exact recipe and see how our ‘Spinach Parathas’ look so drooling with sharp green hues!

Besides we have used ‘Carom Seeds’ (Ajwain) that add to flavors & aroma. Whereas hints of ginger, green chilly beautifully compliment these flavors.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Wheat flour - 2 cups
  • Spinach - 1 cup roughly chopped
  • Carom seeds (Ajwain) - 1 teaspoon
  • Ginger (Finely chopped) - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chilly (Finely chopped) - 1 teaspoon or to taste
  • Salt - To taste
  • Water - As required to make dough
  • Oil/ghee - As required

How to make Palak Paratha

To begin with making these flavorful Palak Paratha we need to make the spinach ‘Puree’ first. For this heat a pan and cook spinach with 2-3 tablespoon of water. Do not cover with lid.

  1. It would take just a minute for the spinach leaves to soften. Now cool them a bit and grind to a fine puree or paste with some water.
  2. So when the spinach puree is ready we can proceed to form dough. Take all ingredients in a mixing bowl like flour, spinach puree, salt, carom seeds, chopped ginger-chilly and make a smooth and soft dough with water.
  3. You can cover & rest this dough for 10 minutes, but usually I don’t have sufficient time, especially when I make them for breakfast in my busy mornings. So I start making parathas right at once.
  4. Divide this dough into lemon size balls. Take a ball, flatten between your palms, dust in flour and roll into a circle or disc about 4-5 centimeters.
  5. Try to use less amount of flour for dusting as this makes parathas dry & chewy.
  6. Now place this rolled paratha on a hot tawa or skillet. Cook for few seconds unless you notice that it begins to change color. Smear with ghee/oil and flip.
  7. On the other side also smear with ghee, press gently with a spoon or spatula and cook on both sides till you see little brown spots appear.
  8. Spinach paratha is now cooked. Finish off the remaining dough with the same process.
  9. Serve these ‘Palak Paratha’ hot, they are a treat!

Note -

While rolling parathas, try to use less amount of flour as much as possible for ‘Dusting’ as this makes parathas dry & chewy
