This mushroom tikka makes an excellent snack or appetizer for parties and get togethers. Besides, it can also be served as a side dish for special weekend or festive meals and relished with soft rotis, onion slices and dahi ki chutney. In this restaurant style recipe, button mushrooms are coated in a marination of yogurt, spices and then put in skewers to be baked in oven till soft and slightly crisp. Often restaurants use edible red color in marination, but here to keep it healthier I have omitted this.

If you are organizing a barbeque party, then this recipe is a must in your menu for vegetarian lovers!

Mushroom Tikka

mushroom tikka is an easy and crunchy snack. Traditionally the tikka recipes are prepared in tandoor and hence it is mentioned as tandoori tikka recipes.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Button mushrooms – 200 gms.
  • Thick yogurt – 1/2 cup
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice – few drops
  • Gram flour – 2 teaspoon (Optional)
  • Tandoori masala powder – 2 teaspoon
  • Red chilly powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Dry fenugreek leaves (Kasoori methi) – 2 teaspoon
  • Salt – To taste
  • Oil – 1 tablespoon + extra for brushing

How to make Mushroom Tikka

  • To begin with making this delicious mushroom tikka, we need to make the marination first.
  • For this combine all ingredients with 1 tablespoon of oil in a large bowl and toss such that all the mushrooms are well coated with the marination. You can either use whole mushrooms or simply cut them into half lengthwise.
  • Cover the bowl with a lid or plate. Let it sit for at least half an hour.
  • Pre heat the oven at 180 degrees. Meanwhile, you can arrange the marinated mushrooms on the skewers.
  • Place these skewers on a baking tray with butter paper. Alternatively, you can also arrange them on a wire rack, but do not forget to place a baking dish beneath.
  • Keep the tray on top rack and grill for 10-12 minutes. Turn the skewers, brush with oil and again grill for 10-15 minutes or till mushrooms become golden brown and attain slightly crisp texture.
  • Switch off the oven and remove.

Mushroom tikka or tandoori mushrooms are ready. Serve as a snack or side dish in main coarse along with lemon wedges, onion slices and dahi ki chutney. For party menu, do refer the ‘Serving Suggestion’ given above.
