Matar Poha is one recipe that is very popular in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Its also known as Chura Matar. To make matar poha we need 2 cup of Green Pees, Washed and Drained Poha, Cumin seeds, Ginger Chilly Paste, Oil, Salt, Chopped Corriender to garnish and spices as mentioned in our ingredients list.
Usually, Matar Poha is made during winters when fresh seasonal green peas are in abundance and served in Breakfast or as an Evening Snack. Though it tastes yumm with a cup of Masala Chai, but you can also serve it with Garlic Chutney or Khatti Chutney.
Born and brought up in Lucknow, I have grown up eating Chura Matar. My grandmother used to cook this dish in Desi Ghee and it used to taste just wonderful. Today when I make this at home, I try my level best to bring out those flavors.....but it's not easy. Even my mother in law is expert in cooking Chura Matar and she loves to add potatoes too.
So here I bring you this recipe of the Matar Poha that I have inherited from my elders!
