  • Now, heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves and dry red chilly. While they crackle, add sliced onion and saute till pink.
  • To this, add chopped tomatoes, ginger garlic paste, turmeric pd, red chilly pd and cook till tomatoes get mushy and the masala leaves oil.
  • Add boiled chickpeas with some water (You can use the same water in which you have boiled the chickpeas). Mix in coconut paste, garam masala pd, coriander pd and give a nice stir.
  • Season with salt and bring it to a boil.
  • After the curry has come to a boil, lower the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat.

Kadala Curry is ready. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander and serve hot with iddiappa, puttu or as suggested above.

Tip -

  • If you don't have fresh coconut, then you can use coconut powder. No need to make a paste, just roast it slightly in a pan, add to the curry and bring it to a boil. But, freshly scrapped coconut tastes best.
