This ‘Tofu curry’ is made in a typical Indian style way. Tofu chunks simmered in a rich onion-tomato based gravy with some spices soak up all the beautiful flavors and the assortment of whole spices make it truly delectable and aromatic.

‘Tofu’ also known as ‘Bean Curd’ has a subtle flavor and can be used in savory and sweet dishes. It is often seasoned or marinated to suit the dish. The flavor is more or less like ‘Paneer’ (Indian Cottage Cheese)….. and has a low calorie count. So, if you’re on a ‘Vegan’ diet, then tofu is a good substitute to ‘Paneer’.



For a special family meal serve this tofu masala curry with eggplants in hot n sour sesame sauce along with some naan, laccha parantha or fried rice. Do not miss to begin with a healthy starter soup like Lemon coriander soup flavored with garlic n pepper !

Tofu Masala Curry

Recipe Ingredients

  • Tofu – 250 gms.
  • Onion (Sliced) – 1 large
  • Tomato (Chopped) – 1 medium
  • Yogurt – 2 tablespoon
  • Green Chilly – 2
  • Ginger garlic Paste – 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric Powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Red Chilly Powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Garam Masala Powder – 1 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander Powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – To taste
  • Water – For the gravy
  • Oil – 4 tablespoon

Whole spices –

  • Cumin Seeds – 1 teaspoon
  • Bay leaf – 2
  • Cinnamon – 1 inch stick
  • Black peppercorns – 5-8

How to make Tofu Masala Curry

  • Cut tofu into cubes and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add all the whole spices and sauté for few seconds.
  • Add sliced onions, turmeric pd. and sauté till pink.
  • To this add chopped tomatoes and sauté till they become mushy.
  • Now add ginger-garlic paste and sauté till oil separates from the masala.
  • Add water as per your requirement of gravy. Season with salt and stir.
  • Whisk yogurt and add it to the gravy. Give a stir and let it come to a boil.
  • Now reduce the flame and add red chilly pd., garam masala pd., coriander pd. and tofu chunks. Give a gentle stir, otherwise tofu pieces might break.
  • Let it simmer for 10 minutes on medium flame.
