This Chinese style eggplant preparation in hot garlic sauce is really easy to make and tastes great with vegetable fried rice or noodles. Addition of little honey to hot sauces, gives a punch to the flavors. Cook for special weekend brunches or serve in your get together/parties, everyone is going to love it !

You can also pack in lunch boxes with some chapatis or simple boiled rice.



Accompany these sweet n sour eggplants with Indian style tofu masala curry. They go great together. Serve with cumin rice or garlicy sweet corn n bean rice along with healthy cabbage soup with milk. Enjoy great fusion spread at home !

Recipe Ingredients

  • Eggplant – 250 gms.
  • Onion (Roughly chopped) – 1 large
  • Garlic (Chopped) – 2-3 cloves
  • Green chilly (Slit lengthwise) - 2
  • Soya sauce – 2 teaspoon
  • Tomato sauce – 2 teaspoon
  • Green chilly sauce – 1 teaspoon
  • Cornflour/cornstarch – 1.5 teaspoon
  • Honey – 2 teaspoon
  • Salt – To taste
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Oil – 4 tablespoon (Including shallow frying)

How to make Eggplant with Spicy Garlic Sauce

  • To begin with making these Chinese style hot n sour eggplant, we need to cut the eggplants first. So, remove the stalks and cut the eggplants lengthwise into quarters.
  • Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry these eggplants till they turn light brown in color. Transfer to a plate.
  • Now add chopped onion n garlic in the remaining oil and saute on high heat for few seconds. Do not over cook.
  • Add all the sauces, shallow fried eggplants, salt, water and corn starch (Dissolved in some water).
  • Give a nice stir, cover the pan and simmer on low heat for 5-7 minutes or till eggplants are cooked to your choice.
  • To finish, add honey and remove from heat.

Eggplants in hot n sour garlic sauce are ready.
