When we talk about Mumbai street food, then Bombay Sandwich is one such dish that you would mostly find in roadside food stalls after Pani Puri, Wada Pao & Pao Bhaji on the streets of Mumbai. Bombay sandwich is so easy to assemble that it also becomes a convenient snack and breakfast option at home.

You just need few vegetables like onion, tomato, cucumber, capsicum, boiled potatoes that are staple and 1-2 khatti meethi chutneys like Dhaniya pudina chutney and Sonth chutney. Adding Cheese is totally Optional and yes, this is also a Healthy Sandwich if you ignore the amount of Butter that goes into grilling. So basically, if you’re counting on calories, then we would suggest you to avoid ‘Grilling’ your sandwiches and use multigrain or whole wheat bread for healthy snacking.

We have ‘Grilled’ our sandwich on an Electric Sandwich Maker, but you can also grill on your regular ‘Tawa’ or pan that you use to make rotis and paranthas. Anyhow, it doesn’t makes any difference on taste. What matters most is how much or what quantity of ‘Chutney’ you have put in your sandwich as ‘Tasteful Chutnetys’ are key to delicious Bombay sandwiches!

Bombay sandwich tastes best when grilled in lots of butter and topped generously with Cheese. Have it with your morning cup of tea of evening Coffee, you will love it while munching on some Marwari lehsuni sev or sweet n sour Poha namkeen.

You can also try snacking on this Bombay sandwich with Dahi ki chutney. This would be a healthier option as well and better if you don’t grill your sandwich and completely avoid using butter for a healthy diet.
