  • Beaten rice (Poha/choora/chiwda) – 2 cups
  • Salt – To taste
  • Black salt – To taste
  • Sugar (Powdered) – 2 teaspoon or to taste (Optional)
  • Oil – 2 tablespoon

Nuts & dry fruits –

  • Peanuts – ½ cup
  • Coconut flakes – ¼ cup
  • Cashew nuts – ¼ cup
  • Almonds – ¼ cup
  • Raisins – 2 tablespoon
  • Melon seeds – 1 tablespoon

Powdered spices -

  • Red chilly powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Dry mango powder (Amchur) – ½ teaspoon
  • Fennel seed powder – 1 teaspoon

How to make Healthy Khatta Meetha Chiwda Namkeen

To begin with making this low fat ‘Khatta meetha chiwda namkeen’, we need to roast the nuts first.

For this, heat a pan (No need to add oil) and dry roast the nuts and raisins on low flame one by one till they turn aromatic, crispy and pink.

NOTE - The reason behind roasting these nuts ‘One by one’ is that all these nuts vary in size. So if we roast all of them together in a pan, then the finer ones could get burnt and the larger ones may not get roasted properly.

  • Transfer to a bowl.
  • In the same pan heat oil and add turmeric powder.
  • Add the chiwda/rice flakes and give a nice mix. Roast on low to medium flame till it becomes crunchy and gets a light golden colour. Take care not to burn it.
  • Now mix in the roasted nuts, salt, powdered sugar and all the powdered spices.
  • Give a nice mix and continue to roast for 2 more minutes on low flame. Check taste to adjust the salt and spices as per preference. Remove from heat.
  • Do remember, though we have removed the pan from heat, but since it is still hot so the chiwda might get burn. Hence it is suggested to transfer the contents to a big bowl or tray.
  • Let it cool at room temperature and then store in air tight container. Would stay fresh and crispy for more than a month.

Our low fat ‘Khatta meetha chiwda namkeen’ is ready. Savour with ginger tea.
