Cabbage Peas Sandwich is a delicious breakfast recipe. To make this Cabbage Peas Masala Sandwich we need bread slices, graded cabbage, boiled peas, chilli, red chilli , butter and spices as per ingredients list.

This sandwich is a perfect Tea Time option with a zingy masala filling made with cabbage and boiled peas. This is a versatile recipe where you can also add lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onion, jalepenos, grated carrots and whatever you can think off that goes well with your palate.

To make this sandwich more tickling, we have used Chutneys, but you can also opt for Mayonnaise, Salsa or any other spread of choice. Pack in your kid’s school tiffin or just carry along in picnic, the choice is yours!

Chutneys, spreads and sauces make a sandwich more delicious. So instead of the ingredients what we have listed below in our recipe, you can also use Sweet Chilli sauce, Tomato Salsa, Hummus, Curd Dip to add more zing in your sandwich.

Kids just love their sandwich layered with Sweet Mango Chutney or Sweet Tamarind Chutney.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Bread slices (Any variety) - 4
  • Cabbage (Shredded) - 2 cups
  • Green peas (Boiled) - 1/2 cup
  • Ginger (Grated) - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chilli (Chopped) - To taste or Optional
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Chaat masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - To taste
  • Green chutney - To taste
  • Oil - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Butter

How to make Cabbage Peas Sandwich

  • To make this Cabbage Peas Sandwich we need to make the filling first.
  • For this heat oil in a pan and add in shredded cabbage, boiled peas, green chilli, ginger and saute for 2 minutes.
  • Season with salt, powdered spices and mix to combine well.
  • Filling is now ready as we do not want cabbage to get mushy. Remove from heat.
  • Now layer one side of a bread slice with chutney and spread the masala filling. Cover with another bread slice.
  • You can eat this sandwich as it is, but if you prefer ‘Grilling’, then heat a pan and add in some butter.
  • Carefully place your sandwich and let it grill on medium heat till it gets a golden crust at the bottom.
  • Spread some butter on the top and very carefully turn it with a spatula. Let it grill on other side as well. Remove from heat, cut into half and serve!
