Namkeen Lassi or Masala Chaas is a spiced yogurt based drink and very popular in summers due to its refreshing and soothing flavors. Unlike plain Chaas, this Namkeen Lassi has a thick consistency and is flavored with black salt, cumin seeds powder, ginger, green chilly, mint leaves and a pinch of paprika.
Definitely all these ingredients make it filling, robust and an easy one to go with meals.
Did you know, ‘Curd’ is a natural energy booster and a great source of protein and calcium for those who are lactose intolerant. It improves digestion, immunity and good for heart. A small bowl of curd is recommended for consumption on regular basis in summers as it prevents from sun stroke and also helps in releasing stress n anxiety. Apart from food, it is also widely used as a beauty product and for skin treatments.
Traditionally, masala chaas is served in earthen pots or kulhaads in hot summer afternoons as appetizer.
Masala chaas also makes a scrumptious lunch when paired with dal makhni or palak ki kadhi (Spinach kadhi). You can also serve along achaari dum aloo or potato cabbage stir fry with some roasted papads. For a twist of taste, replace the regular plain phulkas with piping hot dhaniya masala paranthas and plain rice with jeera rice.
